How to Delete Your Account & Data
There are two ways to close a PL8Z account, and a third option if you only want to remove some of your data rather than close it at all.
- Deactivate — your account is hidden from everyone and nothing is deleted. You can turn it back on within 90 days.
- Delete — everything is permanently removed straight away and cannot be recovered.
Deactivating your account
- Open PL8Z and sign in
- Go to the Settings tab
- Scroll to “Deactivate account”
- Read what it says, then tap Deactivate
Your profile, your listings and your messages immediately stop being visible to anyone else. Nothing is deleted. You stay signed in, and the next screen you see offers to turn your account back on.
You can reactivate at any point in the next 90 days and everything comes back exactly as it was. After 90 days you can no longer turn it back on yourself, though you can contact support and we can restore it for you.
Your data is kept for one year from the day you deactivate, and is then permanently deleted. If you would rather not wait, you can delete your account outright at any time, including after the 90-day window has passed.
One thing worth knowing before you deactivate: if you have PL8Z Pro or a Boost running, that time keeps counting down while your account is off. The app tells you how many days are left before you confirm.
Deleting your account permanently
- Open PL8Z and sign in to the account you want to delete
- Go to the Settings tab
- Scroll to “Deactivate account” and tap it
- In the box that appears, choose “I want to delete my account instead”
- Type “DELETE” to confirm
Deletion happens immediately, with one exception: if your account is involved in a report that’s still under review — whether you filed it or someone filed it against you — deletion is temporarily blocked until that review is complete. This is so a report can’t be erased along with the account before anyone’s actually looked at it. Once the review wraps up, deletion works normally again.
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Your profile — name, bio, profile photo, email, and login credentials
- Every listing you’ve posted, including its photos
- Every message you’ve sent or received
- Your favorites, and the record of sellers who favorited you
- Ratings and reviews you’ve left for others, and ones others left for you
- Anyone you’ve blocked or muted
Photos are removed from storage as well as from the app, so they stop being reachable by any link. This cannot be undone once confirmed.
Removing some of your data without closing your account
You don’t have to close your account to remove things from it. From inside the app you can:
- Delete any individual listing, which removes its photos too
- Delete any individual message you’ve sent
- Remove or replace your profile photo and your bio
- Remove your cottage food permit number
- Remove saved searches you no longer want
- Turn off usage-data sharing entirely, in Settings under Privacy
What’s retained, and why
A small amount of data is retained in a form no longer linked to your identity, rather than deleted outright:
- If you were involved in a report that’s since been resolved — whether you filed it or it was filed against you — the report itself stays on file after you delete your account, no longer linked to your account, as a record of what was reviewed. This is separate from the waiting period above, which only applies while a report is still unresolved.
- Usage-analytics events (e.g. “someone viewed a listing in this category”) are kept for understanding demand, but stop being tied to you once your account is deleted. They are also deleted automatically after 90 days, whether or not you still have an account.
Neither of these includes your name, email, listings, messages, or any other personally identifying information after deletion.
Payment records
If you ever purchased a Boost or PL8Z Pro, a record of that purchase — what it was, when, and whether it was refunded — is kept by PL8Z after your account is deleted, no longer linked to you. Billing records are also held by Stripe, our payment processor, independently of your PL8Z account, per Stripe’s own data retention practices. Records of a completed transaction are normally required for financial and tax purposes regardless of whether the account still exists.
